Prime Minister Boyko Borissov

The Borissov cabinet represented the 87th government of Bulgaria and had been in office since July 27, 2009. It was formed by the GERB party after they won the 2009 parliamentary elections with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov . The government also included non-party experts and it has been reformed several times. The government resigned after protests across the country. It was followed on March 13 by the Rajkow interim government .

Government reshuffles

2009

After the former mayor of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, Boyko Borissov, became prime minister, local elections were initiated in Sofia. The top candidate and winner was Education Minister Jordanka Fandakova , which led to the first reshuffle of the government in the Borisov cabinet. Sergei Ignatov became the new Minister of Education .

2010

In January 2010 Rumjana Schelewa resigned from the post of Foreign Minister after a failed candidacy as European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Protection in the Barroso II Commission . The new Bulgarian Foreign Minister was Nikolaj Mladenow , who held the post of Defense Minister. Successor as Defense Minister was Anju Angelow .

In March 2010 Tomislaw Donchev was introduced as Minister for the Coordination and Monitoring of the EU Funding Programs.

In April, Health Minister Boschidar Nanew was dismissed for mismanagement and replaced by Anna-Marija Borissows . However, Borisova resigned in September 2010 after a scandal and Stefan Konstantinov was appointed as the new Minister of Health .

2011

In December it became known that the majority of the Bulgarian ambassadors and consuls were employees of the former communist state security (see Bulgaria # foreign policy ). In this context and because of the willingness of Prime Minister Borisov and Foreign Minister Mladenov to part with such employees, Boschidar Dimitrov resigned as Minister for Bulgarians living abroad in February. His successor as Minister for Bulgarians Living Abroad was Rosen Ivanov .

On May 18, the Minister for Transport and IT, Aleksandar Zwetkow, resigned. Iwajlo Moskovsky became his successor .

After the Minister for Regional Development and Infrastructure Rossen Plevneliev was proposed as a candidate for the 2011 presidential election , he resigned from his ministerial post. His successor as minister was Liljana Pavlova on September 9th . As Justice Minister Margarita Popova becomes Vice-President of Plevnelev, Diana Kowacheva was sworn in as her successor on November 30th .

2012

On March 15, 2012, Borissow separated from Trajtscho Trajkow and Stefan Konstantinow . The new Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism was Deljan Dobrew and the new Minister for Health Dessislawa Atanasova .

2013

After persistent protests among the population against austerity measures and electricity price increases, the entire Borisov government resigned on February 20, 2013; Finance Minister Djankov had already given up his office two days earlier.
