Tomislav Pejkow Dontschew ( Bulgarian Томислав Пейков Дончев ; born August 6, 1973 in Gabrovo , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian politician of the GERB party , former minister and mayor of the city of Gabrovo and a member of the European Parliament .

Tomislaw Donchev was born on August 6, 1973 in the town of Gabrovo, located in the Balkan Mountains . After graduating from high school in mathematics in 1991, he moved to Veliko Tarnowo , where he successfully completed a master's degree in philosophy and journalism at the Kyrill and Method University there in 1997 .

Between 1997 and 1999 Donchev worked as a teacher for psychology, logic, ethics, philosophy and law at the "Kyrill und Method-Gymnasium" in Veliko Tarnovo. From 1999 he worked at Radio Gabrovo . In 2000 Donchev became director of the Gabrovo Business Incubator , a publicly funded institution for regional economic development. In the same year he also became secretary of the Open Society Institute (OSI) in Gabrovo. Donchev held both functions until 2004 when he resigned from the first.

From 2004 to 2007 Donchev worked as an expert at the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance, as well as program director of the OSI in Sofia. In his second role, he was in charge of the “preparation and management of EU-subsidized projects” department. In 2006 he was able to successfully defend a master's degree in business administration at the University of Veliko Tarnovo.

In November 2007 Tomislaw Donchev won the local elections in his hometown Gabrovo as a candidate for the GERB party. As mayor, he remained in office until March 2010, when he was appointed minister without portfolio in Boyko Borisov's cabinet . In this role he was responsible for coordinating and monitoring the EU funding programs . He was succeeded as mayor of Gabrovo by Nikolay Sirakov .

In the 2014 European elections , Donchev was elected to the European Parliament .
