Stoyan Alexandrov

Stojan Iliew Alexandrow ( Bulgarian Стоян Илиев Александров ; (born June 14, 1949 in Ilija bei Kjustendil , Bulgaria ; † on or before August 24, 2020 ) was a Bulgarian financial expert and politician . From 1992 to 1994 he was the country's finance minister .

Life

Stoyan Alexandrov was born on June 14, 1949 in the western Bulgarian village of Ilija. After the completion of studies in the field of economics with the subjects Banks and Banking at the Academy of Economics in Svishtov Alexandrov working in the branch of the Bulgarian National Bank in Kyustendil. Then worked as a lecturer at the Higher Economic Institute Karl Marx in Sofia (today University of National and World Economy ).

After the fall of communism , Alexandrov became director of the tax authority in the early 1990s. On December 30, 1992 he became finance minister in the cabinet of the non-party Lyuben Berov . Under his leadership, the Bulgarian foreign debt was restructured. During his tenure, a VAT was also introduced in Bulgaria on April 1, 1994 .

After the fall of Berov's cabinet on October 18, 1994, Stoyan Alexandrov became chairman of the Central Cooperative Bank and later of Demir Bank Bulgaria. In 2003, Alexandrov was put up by the Bulgarian Socialists as a candidate for the mayoral elections in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The election was won by the incumbent Stefan Sofianski .
