Millie's Cookies is a British confectionery bakery chain that has specialized in an American range of products and mainly sells various biscuits, muffins , specialty coffees and Baskin Robbins ice cream.

history

Millie's Cookies was founded in 1985 by private entrepreneurs and opened its first store on Oxford Street, London . With Richard O'Sullivan's entry into an executive position in 1987, expansion beyond the borders of London began. a. to Sheffield , Manchester and Birmingham . In the years that followed, the chain opened stores in most major train stations and airports, as well as in many shopping centers across the UK.

In June 1997, the competitor Cookie Jar was taken over with its 30 branches, which were integrated into its own branch network, before Millie's Cookies itself was taken over by the Compass Group in 2003 . Compass wants the company to grow further in its own country, but is also aiming for international expansion. This is to be operated initially through openings in important continental European cities.

Products

Millie's currently offers 13 different types of cookies, five types of muffins and other (sometimes changing) American pastry specialties. The container sizes are rather unusual for the German market, because in addition to individual sales, 5, 8, 13 and 18 packs are also offered for cookies, with a significant volume discount being granted (the price per piece is reduced from 0.99 € up to € 0.36). Ice cream from Baskin-Robbins, a competitor of Ben & Jerry's and Häagen-Dazs , is also available in many locations in the UK . It has not yet been decided whether this will also be the case in German branches in the future.

Branches in Germany

As part of the Millie's Cookies expansion plans mentioned, a branch opened in 2006 in the main train station in Frankfurt am Main and one in the new Berlin main train station . Both are operated by the former DB subsidiary Mitropa , which has also been part of the Compass Group since 2004. However, the branch in the main train station in Frankfurt am Main was closed again at the beginning of March 2014.

Business figures

Millie's Cookies currently operates around 120 branches in the United Kingdom, one each in China ( Hong Kong airport ) and France ( Métro station “Opera” in Paris ) and one in Germany (see above). In 2002, the last financial year before its takeover, the chain had a turnover of GBP 23 million, i.e. approximately EUR 33.7 million.
