The Millions Trench is still the main drainage ditch of the former sewage fields in Falkenberg , a Berlin district in the Lichtenberg district .

history

At the end of the 19th century, James Hobrecht also laid out large areas in the areas surrounding Berlin in the then still independent municipalities, on which the sewage was cleaned by trickling. The sludge dried out through seepage and served as fertilizer for the large, checkerboard-like fields on which mainly grain was grown. Both the inlet and the drainage of the water took place via ditches.

The sewage fields of the Barnimer Feldflur were diverted into the Seelgraben via a large main drainage ditch . Because of its size, the building was popularly known as the Millions Trench . These fields were closed in the 1980s, and from 1995 they became the Falkenberger Rieselfelder nature reserve . The Millions Trench represents the eastern border of the protected area. Access is possible from the Barnim Dörferweg .
