Millstone Rig

The Millstone Rig is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 439 m high elevation is located in the center in the southern part of the approximately 25 km long range of hills in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders .

The closest town is Tarbrax, around five kilometers to the northwest . West Linton is six kilometers east of the eastern flank of the Pentland Hills. The surrounding hills include the White Craig in the west, the Mealowther in the north and the Craigengar in the northeast.

Surroundings

Several streams arise on the west flank of Millstone Rig and join to form Medwin Water , which runs along the south flank. First it marks the border between West Lothian and South Lanarkshire, then between South Lanarkshire and the Scottish Borders before expanding into South Medwin .

At Medwin Water on the southeast flank of Millstone Rig there is a location known as "Roger's Kirk" in records. It is not certain whether this was a chapel. Although there is a drawing of a ruined chapel, a building at this location seems improbable. The cairns could also have been used as a gathering place for covenanters under this name . It is possible that only one gorge was named that way.
