Mimi Aylmer

Mimì Aylmer (actually Eugenia Spadoni ; born May 29, 1896 in Rome , † October 20, 1992 in Bologna ) was an Italian soubrette and actress .

Life

Aylmer comes from a middle-class family in Pisa, but always posed as a Londoner . She made her debut as a singer at a young age in 1913 and was soon signed by the Compagnia di Riviste Papa, where she worked with Guido Riccioli and Luciano Molinari . In 1917 she engaged Carlo Lombardi as a soubrette for his operetta ensemble; further stations for Aylmer were the Compagnia Nazionale Bartoli , that of Gino Vannutelli and finally the Città di Milano , where she celebrated great success in plays such as Die Csárdásfürstin or La piccola cioccolataia . From 1921 she played for theater ensembles such as the Compagnia del Teatro Sperimentale and with Antonio Gandusio , Ruggero Ruggeri and Giulio Baghetti .

The film had already requested in 1914; Aylmer made her screen debut in Amleto Palermi's Colei che tutto soffre . In 1920 Ugo Falenas followed Il tetrico dell'amore . With the advent of the sound film, she played major supporting and leading roles in a handful of films until 1936, sometimes under the name Mimì Almieri , which was again Italianized . Only two more films followed in the post-war period, when she switched to the character subject. Aylmer retired in 1959 and moved to Sanremo ; five years later she moved to an old people's home for actors in Bologna .

Aylmer owned a large collection of photographs, some of which she had taken herself. The collection is now part of the picture archive of Casa Lyda Borelli in Bologna.

She was also active twice as an amateur racing driver. In 1929 and 1936 she competed in the Mille Miglia . In 1929 she was 29th overall on a Lancia Lambda ; In 1936 it failed.
