Mind Key is an Italian progressive metal band from Naples that was formed in 1999.

history

The band was founded in early 1999 by keyboardist Dario De Cicco and guitarist Emanuele Colella. After drummer Andrea Stipa joined the band, the group began working on the first Welcome to Another Reality demo , which was finally recorded in 2000. As a result, the band reached a contract with Frontiers Records . Singer Mark Basile and bassist Raffaele Castaldo were the new members of the band. The debut album was released in July 2004 under the name Journey of a Rough Diamond . Shortly before release, Mark Basile left the band and was replaced by Aurelio Fierro Jr. This was followed by various appearances, with the band also playing as the opening act for Dream Theater on their tour. She also appeared as the opening act for Vision Divine and Pendragon and played on ProgPower Europe . During a performance in Poland , the live DVD Habemus Poland was recorded, with Giorgio Adamo as the singer. Adamo soon left the band, so that he could not be heard on any studio album. His place was replaced by Aurelio Fierro Jr., who returned to the band. Then the recordings for the second album Pulse for a Graveheart followed. Shortly before the release, bassist Raffaele Castaldo left the band and was later replaced by Lucio Grilli. The album was then mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward and released in July 2009, with Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper ), Reb Beach ( Whitesnake , Winger ) and Tom Englund ( Evergrey ) as guest musicians. In September 2010 drummer Andrea Stipa left the band and was replaced by Mirkko De Maio.

style

The band plays classic progressive metal, with their music as a mix of Dream Theater and Symphony X is described.
