The Sandlünz in the Harz Mountains is 516.2  m above sea level. NHN high mountain near Netzkater in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .

Geographical location

The Sandlünz is located in the southern Harz in the southern Harz nature park, directly southeast of Netzkater (approx.  312  m ), which belongs to Ilfeld in the Harztor municipality . It rises above the Bere valley , into which the Brandesbach flows north of the wooded mountain and the Schuppenbach flows west of the mountain . Its north and north-west flanks are part of the Brandesbachtal nature reserve . In a south-easterly direction, the landscape passes over the Rabenkopf ( 547.4  m ) to the Poppenberg ( 600.6  m ). To the south lies the Herzberg mountain spur with the goose beak . The western neighbor beyond the Bere is the Netzberg with the Dühringsklippe ( 504.8  m ).

On the northwest flank of the Sandlünz , above Netzkater, is the Dreitälerblick viewpoint (approx.  420  m ), which, like the Sandlünz , can only be reached on forest paths , for example when coming from the Bere valley . It is included as No. 93 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin; the stamp box is located 50 m east- south- east of the Dreitälerblick next to a refuge (approx.  440  m ; ). From the vantage point in the forest, the view falls into the cold valley in the northwest, the Ilfeld valley , which runs roughly in a north-south direction, with the Bere in the north and the Brandesbach valley in the east. The Bere is below the three valleys gaze at 307.1  m .

Rabensteiner tunnel

In the northwest flank of the Sandlünz , the location of the Rabenstein cliff , east above the Bere is the Rabensteiner Stollen , a former underground mine and the only hard coal mine in the Harz, which was characterized by ore mining, which was operated from 1737 to 1949 and has been a visitor mine since 1981 .
