Mindaugas Steponavičius

Mindaugas Steponavičius (born August 12, 1974 in Venta ) is a Lithuanian brigadier general . He has been the commander of the Lithuanian training and education command since 2019.

Life

Mindaugas Steponavičius was born in 1974 in Venta, a small town in the north of what was then the Lithuanian SSR .

Military career

Mindaugas Steponavičius joined the newly established Lithuanian Armed Forces after graduating from school . In 1994 he graduated from the state military academy ( Generolo Jono Žemaičio Lietuvos karo akademija ), where he himself became an instructor in the following years. In 1999 he moved to the headquarters of the Geležinis Vilkas Infantry Brigade , where he served in various posts over the next few years. In 2003 he was temporarily stationed in Iraq.

As a staff officer, he was Chief of Staff of the Infantry Battalion Grand Duke Algirdas from 2004. Two years later, Steponavičius moved to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense and was also stationed in Afghanistan during 2006. After completing his postgraduate studies at the Baltic Defense College , he was in command of the Grand Duchess Birutė Infantry Battalion between 2008 and 2012. From 2012 to 2014 he was employed as chief of staff of the Geležinis Vilkas infantry brigade . In 2014, Steponavičius graduated from the US Army War College with a master’s degree and returned to the Department of Defense for the next two years. In 2016 he returned to the Geležinis Vilkas Infantry Brigade and was appointed commanding officer.

After handing over command of the brigade to Mindaugas Petkevičius in November 2019, Mindaugas Steponavičius was appointed commander of the training and education command. On July 22, 2020, President Gitanas Nausėda promoted him to Brigadier General.

Private

The general is married and has one son.
