The mineral foam insulation board , also called mineral foam board or mineral insulation board , is a thermal insulation board made from mineral building materials . The main components are quicklime , possibly also cement as well as quartz sand and a pore-forming agent that often contains aluminum. The composition and manufacturing process are similar to that of aerated concrete , calcium silicate panels and sand-lime brick , although the latter two do not contain any pore-forming agents. The mineral foam board is characterized by a low specific weight and high porosity and therefore has a low thermal conductivity . Due to its pressure sensitivity, it is usually plastered or filled.

application

Since, in contrast to bricks, it cannot be used to create stable walls, its use is limited to the thermal insulation of buildings, for example for interior insulation or a thermal insulation composite system . Lime-bound mineral foam panels are diffusion-open (vapor-permeable) and capillary-active (hydrophilic) and are therefore particularly suitable for the interior insulation of heated rooms. Due to the capillary activity, they can drain condensation water that occurs in the dew level or at thermal bridges and transport it to the wall surface, where it can evaporate. Aerated concrete slabs are also open to diffusion, but as a rule not or only to a limited extent capillary-active (hydrophobic). They are therefore mainly used for cold side insulation (e.g. outdoors). (See also: hydrophilicity , capillarity , hydrophobicity , diffusion ). Mineral foam insulation boards are insensitive to moisture and dimensionally stable with sufficiently high tensile and compressive strength. This means that they can also be used in a damp environment.
