Minigolf Ascona was opened on March 19, 1954 and is the world's oldest standardized mini golf course (Bongni system).

history

In 1950 the Swiss Paul Bongni submitted a patent application for a standardized lane golf system under the brand name "Minigolf", which was approved in 1953. On November 27, 1953, the municipality of Ascona issued the building permit for such a facility, which opened on March 19, 1954, one month before the second such facility in Locarno . Although numerous such facilities were created in a few years after 1954 - starting in Ticino - the new sport initially struggled to assert itself. As business in Ascona did not start as expected, the facility was sold to the owner of the plot, Filippo Tonascia, after a few years. The facility is still family-owned today (as of June 2017).

location

The Ascona miniature golf course is located not far from the Ascona piazza between Via Circonvallazione and Via Rotundo in a park with partly protected trees.
