The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) (Malay: Kementerian Sumber Asli dan Alam Sekitar ; German: Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) is a ministry of the State of Malaysia . In addition to overseeing the forests, waters and mineral resources of Malaysia, his area of ​​responsibility also includes managing the various nature reserves. Land surveying and the creation of topographical maps are also located here.

history

The ministry was established as part of the new cabinet formation following the nationwide elections on March 27, 2004. Various institutions and offices that were previously attached to other ministries were assigned to the NRE.

The following institutions were affiliated by the then Ministry of Land and Co-operative Development (KTPK):

  • Department of Director General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG),
  • Department of Survey & Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM) and
  • National Institute of Land and Survey (INSTUN)

The former Ministry of Primary Industries (KPU) relinquished the following offices in the areas of forestry and storage facilities:

  • Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM),
  • Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and
  • Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia (JMG)

The former Ministry of Science Technology and Environment relinquished the offices of its environmental division:

  • Department of Environment (JAS) and
  • Department of Wildlife & National Parks Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN).

The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) lost its hydrology division:

  • Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) and
  • National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM).

tasks

The tasks of the ministry are reflected in the structure of the main departments:

  • Mineral and Geoscience Division : The "Mineralogy and Geosciences" division is responsible for the implementation of the legal requirements of the Mineral Development Act 525 (1994) and Geologi Survey Act (1974) . The industrial sectors serviced by this department mainly include the quarry industry and mining.
  • Biodiversity and Forestry Management Division : The "Biodiversity and Forests" department is entrusted with the conservation and sustainable development of forests. It implements the requirements of the National Biodiversity Policy 1998 and the National Forestry Policy 1978 .
  • Water Resources, Drainage and Hydrology Division : The Water Resources, Drainage and Hydrology Division deals with all aspects of water management and implements the National Water Resources Policy .
  • Land, Survey and Mapping Division : The Land, Survey and Mapping Division is responsible for both the land management and land allocation tasks resulting from the National Land Code (Act 56 of 1965) and the cadastral surveying and mapping tasks .
  • Environmental Management and Climate Change Division : The " Environmental Management and Climate Change " department is entrusted with the implementation of the goals of the National Environmental Policy and the National Climate Change Policy .
