The Mira Praia is a ferry of the Portuguese shipping company Transado, which was put into service as Cuthred for British Rail in 1969 . Until its decommissioning in 2009, the ship was the only ferry connection between Setúbal and Tróia .
history
The Cuthred was built under hull number 498 in the Richards Shipbuilders yard in Lowestoft and was launched on June 3, 1969. In the same month it was delivered to British Rail and put into service on the route from Portsmouth to Fishbourne .
From 1979 the Cuthred was managed by the British Rail shipping company Sealink. From 1983, the ship was only in the summer months in operation, while in winter rested . From July 1984 the ferry belonged to Sea Containers Ltd. before it was retired in 1986 and laid up in Lymington .
In 1989 the company Open Leisure bought the ship, now named Clemtyne, with the plan to convert it into a party boat in the style of a Mississippi paddle steamer. However, this was rejected again. Instead, it went to the Portuguese shipping company Transado as Mira Praia in January 1990 and has since been the only ferry on the route from Setúbal to Tróia.
After 19 years in service for Transado, the now 40-year-old Mira Praia was retired in 2009 and launched in Setúbal, where it has been since then.
