Miranda Sex Garden

Miranda Sex Garden was an English independent formation from London that was founded in 1990.

Band history

British musician and producer Barry Adamson became aware of three music students, Katharine Blake, Kelly McCusker and Jocelyn West, while they were making music on the streets of London, and introduced them to the music label Mute Records . Under contract, the 1991 debut album "Madra" was released. It exclusively contains madrigals staged a cappella and in this it differs significantly from the further musical path of the band. The track Gush Forth My Tears was remixed a little later and released as a single with synthetic beats. It developed into a small club hit.

Already on the second release "Iris" Miranda Sex Garden went completely different musical paths with a mixture of Dark Wave and Ethereal . The band was expanded to include guitar, drums and another singer with Trevor Sharpe, Ben Golomstock and Donna McKevitt .

To promote the 1993 album "Suspiria", which consistently developed the style of "Iris", Miranda Sex Garden went on tour for the first time in the opening act of Spiritualized .

In 1994, with the support of FM Einheit and Alexander Hacke of the Einstürzende Neubauten music group, the next album, "Fairytales Of Slavery", was recorded and released. Stylistically, the sound of the previous album was further developed with elements from industrial and noise pop . Hepzibah Sessa was a temporary member of Miranda Sex Garden at the time. At a gig in the opening act for Depeche Mode there was a scandal in Nuremberg when the band was mercilessly booed and fans threw objects on the stage.

In the following time Miranda Sex Garden and Mute Records ended their collaboration and Kelly McCusker left the band. Katharina Blake devoted herself to other projects and founded the Mediæval Bæbes formation in 1996 .

After a long break and under contract with a new label, the last album "Carnival Of Souls" was released in 2000, named after the horror film of the same name from 1962 (in German: Dance of the Dead Souls ). With Teresa Casella, Mike Servent and Barney Hollington, Miranda Sex Garden had grown into a sextet .
