Miriam Shaded (2016)

Miriam Shaded (born June 29, 1986 in Warsaw ) is a Polish human rights activist and critic of Islam . She chairs the Estera Foundation , which was established in 2014 in response to the humanitarian crisis and persecution of Christians in Syria . She brought 174 Christian families from Syria to Poland without government aid .

Life

Shaded was born into a Polish-Syrian family in Warsaw, the youngest of seven siblings. Her mother is Polish and her father, Moner Shaded, is a native Syrian who emigrated to Poland as a Protestant Christian in the 1970s. Today he is pastor of a presbyterian church in Warsaw. Shaded had studied Protestant theology and later worked in the field of computer science for a while before she increasingly turned to work in her foundation from 2014.

Shaded ran for the Sejm in the Polish parliamentary elections in 2015 as a candidate for the national liberal party KORWiN . In her Warsaw constituency she got 3,644 votes. This was the party's second-best result after that of party founder and top candidate Janusz Korwin-Mikke . With a total of 4.76% of the vote, however, the KORWiN party missed the 5% hurdle and ultimately made it into the Sejm.

She advocates an intensification of aid for Christians who are exposed to persecution in the Middle East. For this purpose, she started an international YouTube channel in early 2016, in which her media appearances are translated from Polish into German and English.

Shaded appeared on the front page of the Polish weekly magazine Wprost in March 2016 , in which she called for a ban on the practice of the Islamic faith in Poland.

Trivia

Shaded took part in the Miss Egzotica 2015 beauty contest , which takes place annually for Polish women with a migration background. Before the final of the competition, however, she withdrew so as not to harm the seriousness of her political ambitions.
