Miroslav Vilhar (born September 7, 1818 in Planina pri Postojni , † August 6, 1871 in Grad Kalec ) was a Slovenian writer, composer and politician.

Vilhar studied law in Vienna and Graz. Until 1860 he was mainly active in the cultural field. He wrote articles for the magazine Novice and, with the support of his friend Fran Levstik, edited the only Slovenian-language political newspaper Naprej (Forward) until it was banned in 1863 . He also wrote plays, short stories and poems, some of which he set to music himself. Several of his songs have become folksong in Slovenia.

Vilhar has been campaigning for Slovenian self-determination since the 1840s. In 1861 he was elected to the state parliament. In the following years he supported the establishment of Slovenian reading rooms. In 1869 he organized a mass demonstration for the Slovenes' right to self-determination. His son Franjo Vilhar Kalski became known as a composer.
