Mischel Cherniavsky

Mischel Cherniavsky (* 1893 in Uman , Ukraine ; † February 21, 1982 in Dieppe , France ) was a Canadian cellist of Ukrainian origin.

Cherniavsky came from a very musical family. As early as 1901 he performed together with his older brothers Jan and Leo under the name Cherniavsky Trio . From 1901 to 1906 Cherniavsky undertook an extremely successful European tour with the trio . In 1905 his family emigrated to Austria and settled in Vienna .

Cherniavsky received Canadian citizenship in 1922, but lived in that country for only a very short time. After the Cherniavsky Trio's farewell concert in Salt Lake City in 1934 , he went to London and started a solo career there. He also played in various smaller orchestras .

In 1958, Cherniavsky undertook another tour of South Africa together with his brothers as the Cherniavsky Trio , but could no longer follow up on their earlier successes.

In 1982, Mischel Cherniavsky died at the age of almost 90 in the French city of Dieppe .
