Mischmar Hasharon

Mischmar Hasharon ( Hebrew משמר השרון"Guard of Sharon") is a kibbutz in the Sharon Plain northeast of Netanya in Israel . The settlement is the birthplace of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak .

Mishmar Hasharon was part of the first fully planned settlement attempt in Palestine . The Jewish National Fund bought large areas of land in 1931 and was planning to build several agricultural settlements. Mischmar Hasharon was settled in the course of this project in 1933 by Jewish immigrants from Russia and Poland . The Russian founders had previously settled in Galilee (this group had existed since 1924).

The kibbutz had 606 inhabitants in 2018. An important branch of the economy of the kibbutz is agriculture (including cultivation of citrus fruits and cotton, fish and poultry farming).
