features

The wasp reaches a body length of 5 to 6 millimeters (females) or 4 to 6 millimeters (males). Their body is black, in the female the first, often also the second tergite on the abdomen is red. The male has densely dotted mesopleurs on top. This distinguishes them from the similar males of Miscophus concolor , which has only very finely dotted and smooth mesopleures.

Occurrence

The species is distributed from North Africa across southern and central Europe to Kazakhstan. In the north, the distribution extends to northern Germany and Poland. It colonizes dry and dry habitats with sandy or loess soils. The species flies from June to September. It is rare to widespread in Central Europe.

Way of life

The females lay their nests in groups, often on demolished edges and dry stone walls, but also use horizontal surfaces. The nests are only a few centimeters deep and contain only one cell. The brood is supplied with several spiders, which are hunted especially in the vegetation. Mostly they are hooded web spiders (Theridiidae), but also harvestmen of the Phalangiidae family . Chrysis cortii has been identified as a cuckoo wasps in the species.
