Mission Societies of Apostolic Life

The Mission Societies of Apostolic Life ( en. Missionary Societies of Apostolic Life, abbreviation: MISAL ) is an association of currently 24 missionary societies of apostolic life, it is the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples downstream. The member companies are each represented by their general superior.

General

The Mission Societies of Apostolic Life are a special form of the societies of apostolic life and are exclusively active in missionary service . As communities without vows , they are also referred to as "missionary world priest communities". Community life is not an end in itself, but serves to better fulfill the missionary task. Mission communities of apostolic life have existed since the 17th century; the Missions Etrangères de Paris (MEP) is an example .

organization

The 24 male member societies are spread across Western Europe (11), North and South America (6), Asia (6) and Africa (1). The respective superiors general of the mission societies under papal law and diocesan law meet annually. These meetings serve to share experiences and reflect on options for missionary activity as a whole and for individual societies. The main topics include a. the Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue , Missionary Spirituality , education and training of mission personnel, missionary presence, justice , peace and integrity of creation , collaboration with lay missionaries and -missionarinnen. In 2019 the MISAL general meeting took place in the parent company of the Société des Prêtres de Saint-Jacques in Guiclan in Brittany.
