River course

The Mistastin River forms the drain of the 338  m high Mistastin Lake . He leaves the lake on its northeastern bank. It flows in a predominantly north-easterly direction through the hill country of the Canadian Shield in the east of the Labrador Peninsula . There are numerous rapids along the upper and middle course of the river. At river kilometer 22.5 there is a 5.4 m high waterfall. On the lower 10 kilometers it shows a meandering behavior with numerous river bends and oxbow lakes. 8 km above the estuary, a larger tributary meets the Mistastin River from the left. This finally flows into the Head Brook, the headwaters of the Kogaluk River , 9 km above its confluence with Cabot Lake .
