Mistreated (English for: " Badly treated ") is a song by the British rock band Deep Purple . The rock piece , based on bluesy influence, was first released in 1974 on the album Burn .

background

Originally planned by Ritchie Blackmore for the studio album Fireball , Mistreated was released on Burn . The almost seven and a half minute long almost blues song in F sharp minor is based, like some Purple pieces before, on the riff of Speed King .

Live performances

Above all live, Mistreated lives from Ritchie Blackmore's "rousing" and at the same time "calming-atmospheric" arranged guitar solos and David Coverdale's "ecstatic" vocals, which offer generous space for improvisations. The song was also released on the 1974 live album California Jam .

Mistreated was an integral part of their concerts from 1974 until Purple's dissolution in 1976.

Cover versions

Nowadays, Mistreated is performed live by David Coverdale's band Whitesnake at concerts, and in 2015 it was released on Whitesnake's The Purple album along with 14 other songs from the "Coverdale era" . Former Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes has also been using the song regularly since the 1990s in his performances such as Hellfest 2016 . He also plays the song on stage in various formations such as Black Country Communion and Rata Blanca , as well as with musicians such as Yngwie Malmsteen , Joe Bonamassa , Jason Bonham or Doug Aldrich .

In Ritchie Blackmore's band Rainbow , Mistreated was on the setlist until 1997, when the formation ended. One of the most striking recordings is on the live album "Live On Stage". Even Ronnie James Dio , the former singer of the band, used it more often on live concerts of his solo band DIO .

In 1996 the song was covered by Yngwie Malmsteen for his album Inspiration .

Other metal and rock bands like Metallica also created cover versions of Mistreated .
