Mitja Drobnič

Mitja Drobnič (born March 18, 1951 ) is a Slovenian politician and diplomat .

Life

He studied economics at the University of Ljubljana . Drobnič entered the diplomatic service of Yugoslavia and served as consul in Dortmund from 1978 to 1982 and in Mannheim from 1986 to 1990 . In 1991 he became Head of Department for Europe and North America in the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1994 to 1998 he was Deputy Head of the Slovenian Mission to the European Union . In 2000 he was appointed State Secretary in the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2002 he became the Slovenian ambassador to Egypt . At the same time he was ambassador to Jordan , Qatar , Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates . He held the office until 2006, when he returned to the Foreign Ministry as political director. In 2009 he went to the Slovenian Embassy in Berlin in Germany as ambassador . In July 2012 he took over the position of Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro .

In addition to Slovenian , he also speaks German , English , French and Serbo-Croatian .
