The Mitspielzeugmuseum Leipzig has around 2880 exhibits, one of the largest collections of historical toys from the GDR and the states of the Eastern Bloc . The Mitspielzeugmuseum, founded in 2004, does not only see itself as a museum in the traditional sense, but is also designed in a social and museum educational manner and enables its visitors to experience the time of that time directly by playing with historical toys. The collection and exhibition are located in the Leipzig district of Stötteritz , the Mitspielzeugmuseum is sponsored by the non-profit association Mehrweg eV

history

The Mitspielzeugmuseum opened in November 2001 and in 2002 became a project of the Mehrweg eV association. For two years, the project functioned as a "museum out of a suitcase" as no suitable rooms were available. Several thematic traveling exhibitions were held at different locations. On November 9, 2004, the Mitspielzeugmuseum opened at its current location. Since then, two to three changing exhibitions have been regularly held there each year. Almost exclusively historical toys and toys from the former GDR and Eastern European countries are shown.
