Mixed Emotions was a pop duo consisting of Drafi Deutscher and Oliver Simon . German was not only the singer , but also the music producer and songwriter of the duo.

Band history

1986 Drafi Deutscher wrote You Want Love , which he offered to his record company EMI, which was supposed to look for an artist for this song. While recording with Oliver Simon, Deutscher came up with the idea of recording the piece with him in a duet.

The single was finally released in September 1986 under the name "Mixed Emotions". Entered at number 42 in the singles charts, it quickly reached number 4. It not only stayed in the charts for 40 weeks, but also in the top 10 for 14 weeks. In March 1987, the second single Bring Back was released , which was 19 weeks in the Charts and just missed the top 10 with a 13th place. Like the predecessor of Media Control , the song was also placed high in the ZDF hit parade .

In May 1987, the first album called Deep from the Heart , produced by Deutscher alone, was released , which advanced to number 2 in the album charts, stayed in the German album charts for a total of 36 weeks and was awarded platinum and gold in Switzerland. The single Sweetheart - Darlin '- My Deer , released in June 1987, reached number 21. Mixed Emotions had three singles in the charts at the same time. In addition, it was for You Want Love , among others, gold in the Netherlands, Austria and Sweden.

In September 1988, the pre-release single of the second album Just for You reached number 12 in the charts and stayed in the hit list for 20 weeks. Numerous television appearances followed. The second album of the same name, produced by Deutscher in collaboration with Chris Evans-Ironside and Mat Dietrich, reached number 7 in the album charts and was awarded a gold record.

In January 1989, I Never Give Up, the duo's last single for the time being, was released. In the spring of 1989, Deutscher and Simon parted ways.

During the 1989 German tour of Deutscher, the idea arose to continue the project with Andreas Martin . Among other things, he was able to celebrate successes with German versions of two mixed emotions songs and took over Simon's parts in the “Mixed Emotions” show block on the Drafi tour. So under the new name " New Mixed Emotions " an album called Side by Side was created . At the beginning of 1992, Deutscher and Martin parted ways again, as both wanted to devote more time to their solo careers.

In April 1999, Mixed Emotions returned in the original formation with Deutscher and Simon. At the end of 1998 they had secretly planned a comeback together. They completely re-recorded all the big hits from the 80s (new music, new vocal parts) and added two newly composed tracks with You Are My Angel and Open Your Heart . The first (pre-) single was the 1999 new recording of You Want Love , for which there was also a music video and a "rap version" produced especially for VIVA and MTV.

The comeback album We Belong Together followed just a week later and reached number 27. Many television appearances followed.

In November 1999 the second single came out as part of the comeback, Bring Back '99 . In addition to new recordings of the title track, it also included a newly composed bonus track Remember and was also the last joint recording by Deutscher and Simon, who went their own way a little later. After the renewed separation, Deutscher took part in the live performances of Mixed Emotions together with Stefan Körber, the former lead singer of the boy band “Verliebte Jungs”. At the beginning of 2000 the project was finally ended.
