Mladen Savić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Младен Савић ; born March 14, 1979 in Zagreb , SFR Yugoslavia) is an Austrian writer and philosopher.

Life

Savić was born to Serbian parents in the non-aligned Yugoslavia and grew up after the first few years in Zagreb, from 1985 in Vienna , Austria . There he attended the boarding school of the Catholic religious schools Josefinum and Kollegium Kalksburg. Mother Voislava Injac is an economist and painter, father Dušan Savić is an assistant director and novelist.

In 1998 the company moved to Sherbrooke , Québec. After demonstrations against the NATO bombing of Serbia and Montenegro in 1999 , he was ordered by the Canadian state to leave North America immediately. In the following year, the family reunited with a residence permit, then work experience as a dishwasher, telephone operator and German teacher.

From 2002 he studied philosophy at Bishop's University in Lennoxville with a degree in 2006, in between he was a study assistant with Bruce Gilbert ("The vitality of contradiction"). The return to Vienna was in 2007, followed by political activity in the Austrian Communist Party headed by Walter Baier , including participation in the 34th party congress as a non-delegate, and in 2008 the party left due to internal differences. Since 2009 he has been working as an editor, translator and freelance author. In 2016 he was accepted into the Austrian PEN Club by Helmuth A. Niederle .

Artistic creation

In 2009 “Die Presse” published a prognostic, biting-provocative article by Savić about Barack Obama's entry into government called “Moral Leukoderma”. This was the first of his published polemics. From 2010 further literary texts followed in the print edition of the Austrian “Augustin”, which is led by Robert Sommer . In 2014 Konstantin Wecker published his essay “Beat them!” In “Behind the Headlines”, an obituary for Stéphane Hessel's “Outraged!”. Since 2014 Karl-Markus Gauß has been printing several of Savić's reviews and philosophical and political essays in the magazine “ Literatur und Critique ”. In 2015 Tanja Stupar Trifunović published another essay by Savić in “Putevi”, but in Serbian with the title “The Power of Words” (“сила слова”). Elena Messner conducted an interview with him in 2016 for “Textfeld Südost”. In the same year, the ORF presented its work “Mosquitos and Elephants” as summer reading in the “Non-fiction books” section. The Austrian author, essayist and satirist Richard Schuberth proved to be a longtime friend and patron of Savić.
