Moabit gondola

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moabiter gondola was a 13 meter long Berlin boat type and represented a mixed type of trek barge and Venetian gondola . These gondolas were built from around 1800 to 1880, most recently at the Jahnke shipyard on the Moabiter Bridge in Berlin. These gondolas were used as excursion boats with passengers mainly in the excursion areas of Moabit and Stralau , at that time still near Berlin. With the advent of steam shipping , the end of the gondolas in Berlin came.

As a project for unemployed young people, a gondola has been built in Berlin-Friedrichshain since 2004 by the Union of Social Institutions , designed for twelve passengers and driven by an electric motor. You should in ferry service between the peninsula (Berlin-Friedrichshain) and the restaurant Stralau "Zenner" ( Berlin-Alt-Treptow ) are used. The replica was launched on July 20, 2006. The maiden voyage took place on August 24, 2006.
