history

USE gGmbH was founded in 1995 when it was entered in the commercial register by the Charlottenburg District Court . "Promotion of the welfare system, public health care and care for the elderly" was named as the company's object. The power of attorney was given to the psychologist Norbert Prochnow . The company then moved to its headquarters at Genter Straße 8-10 in Wedding and on Wassersportallee in Grünau . In the following year, the company set up a bistro for people with disabilities in Wedding , le COUSE . At the same time, the formal recognition of the activity by the State Labor Office Berlin-Brandenburg , which allows the USE to set up a workshop for disabled people, and by the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband , which on May 29, 1996 granted an initially limited membership until the end of the same year. This year, USE ran a day-care center on Manteuffelstrasse in Steglitz for the first time . Two years later, the field of activity was expanded with the opening of a support group for severely mentally disabled people in Wedding. In 1999 USE gradually relocated its headquarters to Koloniestraße in Gesundbrunnen and converted an old factory building for this purpose. In that year a Café Esscapade was added, but it had to be closed again after a few years. On the other hand, a printing house was built on Genter Strasse, which has since offered graphic arts services such as prepress , offset printing and bookbinding .

In 2000, USE founded the non-profit GmbH Education, Retraining, Social (BUS) together with a partner . It offers employment promotion measures for disadvantaged people in the primary labor market . The focus is on the model construction of structures that are to be exhibited at a later date in the Berlin-Brandenburg model park . Another field of activity emerged in electrical assembly, the packaging and assembly of mechanical components and assemblies. At the same time, USE set up a participant administration in Koloniestraße and an automated bookbinding shop in Genter Straße. In 2002 the marina in Grünau started its work. In 2003, a placement service for severely disabled jobseekers brought 72 people together with companies. The model park opened; With funds from the Vivendi Foundation, the offer was expanded to include a pottery . There was also a gastronomic offer in Köpenick , which also included catering . USE has been running the company canteen in the cellar of the Red City Hall and the Senator's canteen in the old town hall since 2003 . Shortly afterwards, the offer was expanded to include gardening and landscaping . A cooperation with the St. Hedwig Hospital in Mitte makes it possible to offer occupational therapy that can be used to reach people who are aiming for vocational rehabilitation. One place where such a reintegration can begin is the saloon ship Metamera, which also serves as a branch of the Treptow-Köpenick registry office . This field of work was added to the portfolio in 2004. USE develops a cutter, the ZK 10, which is marketed at boat shows in Hamburg and Berlin . A year later, the range of brushes, brooms and basketry in the listed building of a former factory for the blind in Oranienstrasse in Kreuzberg was expanded again. In 2005 USE was also able to acquire the previously rented site in Grünau. In 2006, USE rented another building in a building in Eichbuschallee in Treptow-Köpenick to set up a workshop for assembly, gardening and landscaping, administration, kitchen and housekeeping. This year, USE also started an education offensive and has since offered around 20 dual training occupations . At the end of 2006 a part of the marina building was torn down. The plans envisage the construction of a multi-storey building in which the catering, laundry service, carpentry, catering service as well as gardening and landscaping will be accommodated. In 2007 the model park opened in Wuhlheide . Around 50 models of Berlin and Brandenburg sights on a scale of 1:25 are shown. A year later the fleet was expanded to include a Hamburg port launch , the Ursel. In 2008 a consulting office opened in Treptow-Köpenick: The star fishermen are supposed to take over the mediation of volunteer work in their volunteer center . With the introduction of the job opportunity , an instrument of labor market policy, some of the measures are significantly reduced. As a result, there are redundancies and short-time work at BUS. In 2012 USE redesigned the store on Oranienstrasse. A café was created based on a concept by a Berlin design agency. In the same year, USE took over a zoo in Volkspark Hasenheide with the aim of turning it into a natural history educational and meeting place.
