Mobile emergency call

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mobile emergency call is a system that allows senior citizens and members of risk groups to call for help or services in an emergency with their mobile phone . In addition, there are also special devices that only fulfill this function and are not suitable for telephone calls. In Germany, the system is offered by the major aid organizations and specialized private providers. It is a further development of the call help system that has existed since the 1980s .

functionality

The mobile emergency call is based on a mobile phone with a special emergency call button or an emergency call button connected to the mobile phone or smartphone with radio. This works ideally with integrated GPS . If location via GPS is not possible, area location via GSM is triggered, as this works even if there is no GPS signal, but is not as accurate. If this is activated, the location of the owner is determined by GPS and a (mostly hands-free) connection with the 24-hour control center of the system operator. The position information can then be transmitted to the responsible rescue control center and the transfer of the telephone number automatically calls up the important information stored in the EDP database (e.g. on previous illnesses , medication , allergies ) on the person. This means that both the exact position of the patient and important preliminary information on possible illnesses are available to the deploying rescue units as they arrive. Since a "normal telephone call" is set up, the emergency call center can also ask questions about the emergency situation and forward them to the local rescue control center. In addition, the patient can be looked after over the phone until the ambulance service arrives, or first aiders can be instructed on first aid measures .

Several providers combine the mobile emergency call with other, in some cases comprehensive, services that enable seniors in particular to lead their lives safely and at the same time relieve their relatives. There is also a provider who looks after the mobile emergency call throughout Europe with a multilingual central office. In the event of an emergency in Tuscany, for example, the caller can speak German with the emergency and service center, but the center with the local rescue control center can describe the case in Italian and provide information about existing pre-existing illnesses, risks, etc., and dispatch the helpers to the target. This service is particularly suitable for seniors who are still keen to travel or for people with high-risk pre-existing conditions such as cardiovascular diseases.

In the meantime, various providers already offer mobile emergency call technology that does not require a SIM card or GPS receiver in the emergency call device. These transmitters that trigger an emergency call are usually connected to current smartphones that people carry with them. Since current smartphones have a connection to the Internet and also have GPS, the usually more expensive purchase of an additional mobile emergency call transmitter with GSM and GPS can be spared, since the emergency call transmitter only needs to have a radio connection to the respective smartphone. An app is then active in the background on the smartphone that detects the triggering of the transmit button.

Some providers use a different alert method. In contrast to the system mentioned above, an emergency call center is not alerted here, but a push message is sent to relatives or friends. If the person is alerted, the position of the person seeking help is shown on a map. The alerted person can call back to clarify what kind of help is needed and decide on the next steps.

Additional services

Depending on the service package, the services include personal medical care and advice around the clock, e.g. B. on the basis of the information provided by the customer on his health situation. Modern communication technologies are also used here, including a. in the form of SMS reminders for regular medication or as a further safety plus, fall sensors coupled with GPS . As a supplement to medical care, various everyday aids are often offered, depending on the provider at different service levels. These range from the organization of a key service via taxi switches or emergency pharmacies -Search to veterinary advice, help with language problems abroad or organizing a phone call with a doctor . There are of course price differences and regional restrictions, so a price-performance comparison and a call for advice from several providers makes sense before concluding a contract. Some aid organizations also offer so-called emergency apps . Cardiac patients are connected directly to a cardiac specialist in the call center using a special device , who can instruct the patient to open the cover on the back of the device and to press the electrodes embedded there onto the chest. In a matter of seconds, an EKG is generated that is transmitted to the specialist in the call center. He can then inform the locally responsible rescue service in the event of danger.
