The Modern Music School (MMS) is a private music school based on a franchise system . The school has 80 locations operated by 50 franchisees in Germany, Greece , the USA , Canada , the United Arab Emirates and Iran . The MMS headquarters are in Idar-Oberstein .

History and Development

The Modern Music School was founded in 1987 by business economist and drummer Hans-Peter Becker under the name Modern Drum School in Saarbrücken and initially specialized in drum lessons. In 1995 the range was expanded to include instruments from the field of rock and pop music, and the school was renamed Modern Music School . Today, depending on the location, the school mainly offers lessons on the instruments drums, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, piano and keyboard as well as singing lessons.

In 1996 Becker founded the Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA) in Pasadena , California . The first department heads were Frank Gambale (guitar), Alphonso Johnson (bass), Ralph Humphrey and Joe Porcaro (drums). In 1998 the first franchise branch in Costa Rica followed . In 2001 the company expanded further abroad. There are now branches in Greece, the USA, Canada, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

1997 Becker founded the music school for early musical education Kling Klong . The Kling Klong concept is based on Reggio pedagogy , reform pedagogy and individual pedagogues such as AS Neill and Maria Montessori and extends the concept to include music lessons for an age group between one and a half to seven years.

The VibrA was established in 2002 as a Vestax DJ School founded and as a private music school DJ - and producing lessons.

The Modern Music School franchisees are site managers of their own MMS branch. The three franchise models Modern Music School, Kling Klong and VibrA can be operated individually or combined with one another. The franchisees do not need any musical training. The teachers are musicians and educators.

MMS has its own publishing house, Modu Publishing . The textbooks as well as non-fiction books and magazines on the subjects of music and music education , learning and education used in music lessons at MMS are published here.

Lesson concept and educational concept

The school's music lessons are aimed at an age group of seven years and over. Students can choose between different programs. In addition to individual and group lessons, there is the so-called band program and a professional program as preparation for a professional music career.

The music students can define their lesson goal and choose the music style in the class. There are also special school concerts and star workshops.

About 350 music teachers and course leaders teach as honorary staff for the MMS , who are trained in the company's own training center in Aschaffenburg and trained in seminars. Various pedagogical, motivational and neuroscientific approaches play a role in the didactic and pedagogical concept .

collaboration

Music camps were organized in Germany in 1991. There was a collaboration with musicians such as Gregg Bissonette , Steve Smith , Adam Nussbaum , Will Calhoun , David Garibaldi and Ray Luzier , who taught at the camps. In addition, workshops such as the Star Connection were offered with internationally active musicians from the rock and pop fields. The school also works with Trinity College London , which held so-called Trinity Rock and Pop Exams in Germany.
