Gregg Bissonette (born June 9, 1959 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American drummer .

Career

Bissonette grew up in a family of musicians. His father Bud played drums, his mother Phyllis played the piano and vibraphone, and his younger brother Matt bass .

At the age of five he began to learn drums from his father. He later studied at the University of North Texas . In 1982 he moved to Los Angeles, where he first played with trumpeter Maynard Ferguson and later in Brandon Field's Band with John Patitucci . In 1985 he toured with David Lee Roth , with whom he recorded three albums by 1991 .

He worked with the Buddy Rich Big Band , Steve Vai , Joe Satriani , Steve Lukather , Larry Carlton , Toto , Don Henley , James Taylor , Brian Setzer , Steve Stevens, and Ringo Starr .

At times he was a member of his brother's band called The Mustard Seeds , which he co-founded in 1993. In 1999 he played the title El Farol on Carlos Santana's album Supernatural . Since 2008 he played with Ringo Starr after he recorded an album with the Keith Emerson Band .

Bissonette recorded several solo albums. He also recorded various soundtracks, including those for the film The Devil Wears Prada .
