The former CIA agent and hit man Francis now has a guilty conscience about his job and has therefore started to kill his clients. The also former CIA agent Hopper has been on the hunt for Francis for several years and tries to kill him. In his search, Hopper poses as Reynolds the cop.

Martha has just left her boyfriend because he was cheating on her. In a supermarket, Martha runs into Francis by chance, who surprisingly asks her out on a date. Martha is fascinated by the strange Francis and goes to eat a hot dog with him. On the date, the two escape a sniper who was put on Francis. Francis and Martha get along well and spend the night together after the date.

The two of them go out again the following evening. In the restaurant, a contract killer who has been targeted for Francis reveals himself. Francis is able to overpower and kill the hit man in the parking lot of the restaurant without Martha noticing. Francis wants to teach Martha to use knives with care, but Martha is initially confused. Eventually, however, she is able to catch the knives that Francis thrown because of her feeling.

A group of petty criminals want to hire Francis to kill a competitor. Francis shoots the client's middleman in front of Martha. Martha then withdraws from Francis. Then Hopper appears at Martha's and tells her that Francis is a murderer he is looking for and asks her to help. When Hopper tries to catch Francis, Hopper is overwhelmed by Francis. Martha is initially confused about her feelings for Francis, but ultimately she chooses Francis. She doesn't care now that Francis kills people either.

The group of petty criminals decides to take revenge for the murder of the middleman and goes on a hunt for Francis. Francis is initially able to fend off the attack on his life, but is hit by a shotgun. The criminals kidnap Martha in order to lure Francis to her boss so that Francis can kill him while freeing Martha. Francis can overwhelm the criminals and free Martha; she herself kills two of the criminals. As the two are about to disappear, Hopper appears and a fight ensues between Hopper and Francis. Hopper is eventually killed by one of the criminals. Francis and Martha escape and go on a world tour together.

The film was shot in New Orleans in October 2014 . It premiered on September 19, 2015 at the Toronto International Film Festival and was shown in US cinemas on April 8, 2016. In Germany, the film was not shown in cinemas, but was released directly on DVD on November 18, 2016 .

The film service believes that the “basic constellation of the absurd love and action comedy” has “its charm”, also unfolds with the “oblique approach of the couple thanks to the actors quite charm”, but “the more the plot moves in the direction Action "tends," the more borderline are the drastic peaks of violence presented with brute humor ". Cinema writes: "Spaniard Cabezas (...) and US script writer Max Landis celebrate the genre of romantic comedy in an anarchically silly manner."

The film was nominated for the 2016 Teen Choice Awards for Choice Movie: Comedy and Anna Kendrick for Choice Movie Actress: Comedy .
