Kerlot Cistercian Abbey

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian Abbey Kerlot was 1652-1792 a monastery of Cistercian nuns first in Plomelin , 1668 in Quimper , Finistère department , Brittany , Diocese of Quimper in France.

history

In 1652 the local lord of Kerlot, Pierre de Jegado de Kerollain, founded the nunnery Notre-Dame de Kerlot ( Lage ) in today's Plomelin with 12 Cistercian women from the Abbey of La Joie in Hennebont , including his sister (niece of the abbess there) as the first abbess. In 1668, her successor moved the convent to Quimper ( Lage ) for security reasons , where it was dissolved by the French Revolution in 1792 . In Plomelin, where no building remains are left, the field name Kerlot and the street name Hent Kerlot are reminiscent of the monastery. In Quimper there is still a monastery building on Rue du Palais , which is used by the administration of justice.
