The Cistercian Abbey of La Joie (Hennebont) was a monastery of the Cistercian women in Hennebont , Morbihan Department , Brittany , Vannes Diocese in France from 1260 to 1792 . The former Cistercian convents Monastery of La Joie (Nemours) and Monastery of La Joie (Berneuil-sur-Aisne) , as well as the current monastery of Campénéac , also bear the name "La Joie" .

history

After Johann I Duke of Brittany had founded the Prières monastery in 1251 , his wife Blanka of Navarra (1226–1283, also: Blanka of Champagne) followed him in 1260 with the foundation of the nunnery La Joie Notre Dame ("Mary Joy") on Banks of the Blavet in Hennebont. It was settled with Cistercian women from the Paris Abbey of Saint-Antoine-des-Champs . Destroyed by fire in 1512, it was rebuilt in 1693. In 1652 it founded the Kerlot daughter monastery . After it was closed and sold by the French Revolution in 1792, it was partially dismantled. From 1857 until recently, the site was used by a state stud. The stately abbess building, which dates back to the 17th century (under monument protection since 1995), now contains holiday apartments. The confessor's house (wrongly called "Porterie", since 1921 a listed building) belongs to the city. Furthermore, the street name Impasse de l'Abbaye reminds of the former monastery.
