The former Cistercian convents Monastery of La Joie (Nemours) and Monastery of La Joie (Hennebont) as well as the current monastery of Campénéac also bear the name "La Joie" .

history

Jacques de Bazoches , Bishop of Soissons , founded in 1234 twelve kilometers east of Compiègne the Cistercian Abbey Notre Dame de la Joie ("Maria joy", originally "Notre-Dame-de-la-Saussaye" from French column "willow tree"), which because of of their relics of St. Clare of Assisi later got the nickname "Sainte Claire" and developed into a place of pilgrimage . The nunnery fell victim to the English in 1430 in the Hundred Years War . In 1451 the neighboring monastery Ourscamp settled the place with a Cistercian priory, which was dissolved by the French Revolution in 1790 . On the site of the monastery buildings destroyed in 1817, the still existing Sainte-Claire Castle was built in the west of the municipality of Berneuil (not far from the Aisne ).
