Modern chamber orchestra for old and new music

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

moderntimes_1800 is an Austrian chamber orchestra founded in 2003 by Ilia Korol and Julia Moretti . It appears as a historical or modern chamber orchestra, but also in smaller formations up to a quartet . In its programs, the ensemble is primarily interested in thematic red threads, in contrasts between different epochs , but also in opposing cultural and social developments within an epoch. As a result, there are entanglements with literature and various dramatic forms, including opera .

Since its inception, moderntimes_1800 has been a guest at the opening of the Wiener Festwochen 2004, the RuhrTriennalen 2005 and 2006 and various German and Austrian concert halls. At the Salzburg Festival 2006, the orchestra successfully performed the production "Der Liederabend" together with Michael Schade , Patricia Petibon , Juliane Banse , Tobias Moretti and Sylvie Rohrer .

Music genre

The year 1800 in the orchestra's name refers to one of the most eventful epochs in European history , in which society , politics and culture are fundamentally changing and setting the course for European modernity. The transition from the 18th to the 19th century marks the threshold of an epoch fall, with upheaval and reorientation in the most diverse areas.

moderntimes_1800 makes use of the instruments and playing styles of the respective time when a work was created, in the conviction that the musical language of an era can be expressed most vividly with its own sound means.
