Ilia Korol (* 1969 in Kiev , then USSR, now Ukraine) is an Austrian violinist of Ukrainian origin.

The Kiev-born violinist and conductor is an internationally sought-after specialist in the field of early music and its performance practice. Ilia Korol studied at the Moscow Conservatory College and later at the Moscow Conservatory itself. Abraham Stern, Gelya Dubrova and Marina Iashvili were his professors. He has lived in Austria since 1997, where he was granted citizenship in 2001 for his musical achievements.

He played with orchestras such as Musica Antiqua Köln , with whom he was on a tour of the USA in 2006 as a "guest leader", which he a. a. to Carnegie Hall New York, Disney Hall Los Angeles, Berkeley, Santa Barbara and Santa Monica. Ilia Korol is concertmaster of various orchestras: the Vienna Academy , Musica Angelica LA (USA), the Bach Ensemble of Joshua Rifkin and the Spanish baroque orchestra RCOC. He is also a member of the ensemble at Ars Antiqua Austria and the Clemencic Consort .

In 2003, Ilia Korol and Julia Moretti founded the moderntimes1800 chamber orchestra , which he played at the RuhrTriennale Festival, the Salzburg Festival , the Theater an der Wien , the Wiener Konzerthaus , the Rheingau Musik Festival , the Innsbruck Festival , the Wiener Festwochen , the Festival La Chaise Dieu and the Handel Festival Halle .

Numerous CD recordings attest to his lively chamber music activity. His most recent CD releases in this field are the first recording of Brahms' violin sonatas on historical instruments with Natalia Grigorieva (CD of the month and of the year from music web international ). The world premiere recording of George Onslow's violin sonatas with Norbert Zeilberger was awarded a Diapason d'or , and the CD was enthusiastically received by the press. The 2008 CD Sinfonias from the Enlightenment with moderntimes_1800 was also awarded a Diapason d'Or.

As a teacher, Ilia Korol has given numerous master classes for years, including at the Academy of Performing Arts Vienna, the Moscow Conservatory, the Belgrade University of Music, the Austria Barockakademie Gmunden, the Innsbruck Festival Weeks and the UCLA Los Angeles. From 2008 to 2010 Ilia Korol was a lecturer in the early music course at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg , Innsbruck. Some of his students are now themselves internationally sought-after artists.
