description

The international "Ensemble for New Baroque Music", founded in 1993 by Gunar Letzbor on the occasion of the first CD recording, is dedicated in particular to the "Austrian Baroque sound" that emerged from the diversity of the landscapes and peoples of the Habsburg Monarchy . A special expression of this intensive preoccupation with the music of the countries ruled by the House of Habsburg in the 17th and 18th centuries is the concert program "Sound of Cultures - Culture of Sound" documented in a CD collection, in which Ars Antiqua Austria deals with the influences from Belgium, Bohemia, Burgundy, France, England, Spain, Italy, Galicia, Hungary, Transylvania and all the way to Russia on Austrian baroque music and that in the context of 90 concerts in the cities of Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Krakow, Venice , Laibach, Mechelen and Lübeck emerged.

To explain the term “Ensemble for New Baroque Music” Gunar Letzbor writes: “A piece that was composed yesterday but does not contain any new ideas, feelings or new musical material is 'old music'. A piece that is brand new, contains something new, but what is not recognized and musically understood by the performing musicians, strikes the listener as 'old music'. A piece that is 300 years old, has never been heard, and is imaginatively performed by musicians with open souls and hearts and with all the expressive values available in the present is 'new music'. 'New music' can therefore only arise through appropriate interpretation. "

The ensemble has been organizing its own concert cycle every year since 2002 in the Vienna Konzerthaus , and since 2008 also in the Brucknerhaus in Linz .
