František Jiránek

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

František Jiránek (born July 24, 1698 in Lomnitz an der Popelka , † June 15, 1778 in Dresden ) was a Bohemian composer of the late Baroque.

Life

František Jiránek, a hitherto largely unknown composer, was born as a child of Count Wenceslaus Morzin's servants. Like his parents, he was initially employed by the Count. This enabled him to spend three years in Venice between 1724 and 1726 to study with Antonio Vivaldi or himself. The fact that Count Morzin was the dedicatee of Vivaldi's op. 8 (which contains the well-known “Four Seasons”) and commissioned several bassoon concertos by the Venetian suggests this.

From 1726 Jiránek was back in Prague as a member of the Morzin Chapel. In this chapel, among others, Antonín Reichenauer and, for a short time, Johann Friedrich Fasch had a job. After the Count's death in 1737, he left Prague and found a job in the chapel of the Saxon Prime Minister Heinrich von Brühl in Dresden. Jiránek retired after von Brühl's death in 1763 and lived in Dresden until his death in 1778.

Jiránek's traditional compositions are exclusively instrumental works, violin sonatas, trio sonatas, symphonias and concertos, the style of which confirms the assumption that he was a student of Vivaldi. Nevertheless, Jiránek managed to give his works a certain personal, bohemian character.
