Mohamed Aly Reda (born February 19, 1975 in Cairo ) is a former Egyptian super heavyweight boxer . Aly won silver medals at the 2003 Pan-African Games and the 2004 Olympic Games .
After Aly failed in the quarterfinals of the military world championships in 1997 and 1999, he won the silver medal at the Pan-African Games in Abuja (Nigeria) in 2003 when he was defeated by local hero Gbenga Oluokun on points. With this success he was able to qualify for participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
In 2004 he achieved the great sensation in Athens when he was able to move into the finals of the highest weight class with three surprising victories against favored opponents and thus won Olympic silver: in the second round, Aly Carlos Takam from Cameroon defeated the Lithuanian Jaroslavas Jakšto in the quarter-finals and in the semifinals the Cuban Michel López just on points. For the final against Alexander Powetkin , he stopped playing because of a shoulder injury and gave the Russian gold without a fight.
After the Olympics, Aly retired from active sports and founded a martial arts academy in New Cairo in 2006 .
