Jaroslavas Jakšto

Jaroslavas Jakšto (born August 7, 1980 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian boxer .

Career

Jaroslavas Jakšto started boxing as a teenager and started for the boxing club VOSC Vilnius . As a member of the Lithuanian armed forces, he was able to concentrate fully on boxing. With a height of 1.94 meters, he grew very quickly into the super heavyweight (over 91 kg body weight) and weighed around 100 kg as a senior. He is also well known in German boxing circles because he competed in the German Bundesliga for MBR Hamm in the 2006/07 season .

He made his debut at international boxing championships at the 2003 World Championships in Bangkok in the super heavyweight division. He lost there in the quarterfinals against Sebastian Köber from Germany and finished in 9th place.

In 2004 he started at the European Championships in Pula . He came there in the quarterfinals to a point victory over Esmir Kukus from Bosnia - Herzegovina , but lost in the semifinals against Alexander Powetkin from Russia by breaking off in the 3rd round. He finished 3rd and won his first medal at an international championship. Furthermore, with this placement he qualified for participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In Athens he clearly defeated Victor Bisbal from Peru on points (26:17), but was defeated somewhat surprisingly in the quarterfinals against Mohamed Reda Ali from Egypt on points (11:19) and thus finished 5th.

In 2006 Jaroslavas Jakšto won the CISM military world championship in Warendorf . In the final, he beat Konstantin Chaisarow from Russia on points.

In 2007 he started at the World Championships in Chicago . after victories over Stefan Köber from Germany and Magomed Abdusalamow from Belarus, he was defeated there in the quarterfinals against Vyacheslav Hlaskow from the Ukraine and thus finished 5th.

In 2008 Jaroslavas Jakšto was able to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing by winning the European qualifying tournament in Athens . In Beijing he defeated Onoriode Ohwarieme from Nigeria clearly on points (11: 1), but lost in the quarterfinals against David Price from Great Britain because he could not play the second round because of a foot injury. He came back to 5th place.
