Denis Sergejewitsch Sergejew

Denis Sergejewitsch Sergejew ( Russian Денис Сергеевич Сергеев , scientific transliteration Denis Sergeevič Sergeev ; born March 21, 1982 in Vladimir , Vladimir Oblast ) is a Russian boxer . It was 2008 vice European champion in the super heavyweight .

Career

The southpaw Denis Sergejew starts for Dynamo Vladimir . His trainer is Alexander Mikhailov. He has boxed since 1997 and is a student at the Vladimir University Law School.

The 1.98 meter tall boxer started in the super heavyweight category (over 91 kg body weight). He made a name for himself with good performances in Russia after his junior years. In 2004 it was therefore used in international tournaments. He reached the final at the Chemistry Cup tournament in Halle (Saale) , where he lost on points against Sergej Rosnow from Bulgaria . A little later, however, he won the super heavyweight competition at the Grand Prix in Ostrava with a victory in the final battle over the Lithuanian Keistutis Bitkevičius.

In 2005 he started for the first time in the Russian super heavyweight championship. He was defeated there but still in the semifinals against Wladislaw Wasiljew and thus reached 3rd place. He landed a tournament victory at the tournament for the Golden Gong in Skopje . In the final he beat Miloš Cvetković from Serbia by breaking off in the first round.

Also in 2006 he ended up in the Russian championship after a point defeat in the semifinals against Magomed Abdussalamow on the 3rd place. In 2007 he became the first Russian super heavyweight champion. In the final battle he defeated the reigning European champion Islam Timursiev on points (22:19). In the same year he was used at the pre-Olympic Games in Beijing . He came there to a non-fighting victory over the Chinese champion Zhang Zhilei and defeated Michael Hunter from the USA in the final on points (21:19).

In 2008 Denis Sergejew had the chance to qualify for the Olympic Games. The Russian association had to choose between himself and Islam Timursiev. Denis Sergejew lost in February in an international match in Magnitogorsk Russia against the United States against Michael Hunter on points (13:23), which succeeded in revenge for the defeat in Beijing 2007. When Denis Sergejew lost in the semifinals of the 1st AIBA Presidents Cup in Taipei in May 2008 against Sardor Abdullayev from Uzbekistan on points (22:27), the decision to deploy Islam Timursiev at the Olympic Games was probably made.

Denis Sergejew was in October 2008 in Kaliningrad with a points victory over Shamil Gadschiew again Russian super heavyweight champion. Head coach Alexander Lebsjak then also used him at the European Championships in November 2008 in Liverpool . There he won over Andrew Wyn Jones from Wales by breaking off in the 4th round, won over Michail Sheybak from Belarus on points (7: 2) and beat Memnuk Hadžić from Bosnia-Herzegovina by breaking off in the 3rd round. In the final he faced the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulew , who outscored him (2: 9). Denis Sergejew thus became vice European champion .
