Mohamed Mestiri

Mohamed Mestiri (born 1964 ) is a Tunisian - French thinker and a figure of Islam in Europe . At the Sorbonne in Paris he did his doctorate in philosophy and at the University of Ez-Zitouna in Tunis his theology diploma .

He was director (of the former French branch) of the International Institute for Islamic Thought (abbr. IIIT) near Paris .

"The IIIT was founded in 1981 and is headed by Taha Jaber Al Alwani. Its Saint-Ouen office is run by Mohamed Mestiri, a Tunisian with a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne who was earlier consulted by Daniel Rivet for his 2003 report on imam training for education minister Luc Ferry. For the past five years, the IIIT has held an annual dinner that is well attended by political élites. "

Mestiri was one of the signatories of the Amman Message (Amman Message) .
