International Institute of Islamic Thought

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Institute of Islamic Thought ( IIIT ; "International Institute for Islamic Thought" or "International Institute for Islamic Thought") is a US non-profit organization founded in 1981 with headquarters in Herndon , Virginia in the United States , a suburb from Washington, DC It sees itself as a think tank for the Muslim Brotherhood .

History and purpose

The institute serves to promote the 'Islamization of Knowledge' ( Islamization of knowledge or science (s) ) - i.e. H. scientific thinking based on the ethics of Islam . It was founded by Ismail al-Faruqi (1921–1986) and Taha Jabir al-Alwani (1935–2016), who then continued the institution and popularized it together with Muhammad Naquib Syed al-Attas (born 1931). The institute, financed by donors from the Gulf States , was classified as one of the new players in global Islam (Leif Stenberg), close to Muslims and Islamist .

The first members of its Board of Trustees ( Board of Trustees ) were Ismail Raji al-Faruqi , Abdul Hamid Abu Sulayman , Taha Jabir Al-Alwani , Jamal Barzinji and Anwar Ibrahim , all of her background in Islamic organizations Muslim Students' Association (MSA) Association of Muslim Social Scientist (AMSS), the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), or a combination of the three. Even Ahmad Totonji supposedly assist in the establishment.

Taha Jabir al-Alwani, the long-time president of the institute and member of its Board of Trustees , is considered the father or 'pioneer' of the doctrine of Fiqh al-aqallīyāt ( Islamic minority law / jurisprudence of Islamic minorities ), a doctrine according to Palina Kedem which, as an Islamic minority law, regulate the everyday life of Muslims in non-Muslim countries and should make the Islamic worldview compatible with life there . This doctrine draws its sources from Salafism and aims as a first step towards the unification and integration of the Muslim minorities.

According to the conclusion of the study by Kyle Shideler & David Daoud (Center for Security Policy, 2014), the IIIT was given the leeway

"To exploit the academic and intellectual freedom that American society provides, meanwhile they are actively aiming to undermine and topple the foundations of that society from the inside. (Eng. to exploit the academic and intellectual freedom offered by American society while actively trying to undermine and overthrow the foundations of this society from within. ) "

One of the IIIT schools is The Fairfax Institute (TFI) .

IIIT Vice President Jamal Barzinji (1939–2015) and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Shenandoah University, Calvin Allen Jr., signed a memorandum to initiate and promote academic collaboration between the two institutions.

An Islamic institute comparable to the IIIT in its objectives is the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia , founded in 1987 under Muhammad Naquib al-Attas .
