Professional background

Al-Taqwa was based in Lugano and the company was accused of supporting al-Qaeda . His deputy at al-Taqwa was Ali Ghaleb Himmat . He made a fortune selling cement to Libya and Saudi Arabia .

Life / activity

He was arrested in the 1950s for serving with the Muslim Brotherhood .

1968 was originally for former Muslim, allied with the Nazis soldiers of the SS division Handschar built Islamic Center Munich financial support from Libya over Youssef Nada. He used to live in Austria. For a long time he was a kind of foreign minister for the Muslim Brotherhood. Due to a lack of evidence, the allegation that Nada supported al-Qaida could not be substantiated in a criminal way. He said Omar Suleiman should be charged and compared Husni Mubarak to Dracula.

Nada wrote an article on the Muslim Brotherhood website recognizing the Shiites as Islamic. Still, he met Saddam Hussein .

Inclusion on the 2001 UN Security Council sanctions list and trial

Youssef Nada and his companies were added to the UN Security Council's sanctions list in 2001 at the request of the USA and were considered a suspected supporter of al-Qaeda. As a result, the Swiss Federal Council amended the so-called Taliban Ordinance to include Nada and its companies. He was effectively under house arrest in the Italian enclave of Campione d'Italia because he would have violated the ban on entering Switzerland when leaving the territory. In addition, his fortune was frozen.

In 2007, the Swiss federal court refused to lift this travel restriction. It assumed that the sanctions decisions of the UN Security Council would take precedence over other international obligations of Switzerland. Only after he was removed from the sanctions list in 2009 did Switzerland also lift the entry and transit ban against him.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled on September 12, 2012 that Switzerland had violated Nada's right to respect for private and family life as well as his right to access to effective complaints. He awarded him a compensation of 30,000 francs.
