Isma'il Raji al-Faruqi ( Arabic إسماعيل راجي الفاروقي/ Ismāʿīl Rāǧī al-Fārūqī; born 1921 in Jaffa , Mandate Palestine ; died 1986 (murdered) in Wyncote , Pennsylvania, USA) was an Islamic scholar, comparative religious scholar and a personality of Islam in North America. Together with Taha Jabir al-Alwani (1935-2016) he founded the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), which sees itself as a think tank for the Muslim Brotherhood , with its headquarters in Herndon , Virginia in the United States , a suburb of Washington, DC

Live and act

Ismail al-Faruqi was born in Jaffa , Palestine, in 1921 . He taught Islamic studies at the Institute of Islamic Studies at McGill University ( Montréal ), the Central Institute of Islamic Research ( Karachi ), the Institute of Higher Arabic Studies of the League of Arab States ( Cairo ) and at Syracuse University . He was Professor of Islamic Studies / Religious Studies at Temple University in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA). He studied at the American University of Beirut , at Indiana University and at Harvard University . After receiving his doctorate, he worked at Azhar University in Cairo (in the field of Islam) and at McGill University in Montréal (in the field of Christianity and Judaism). The IIIT in the United States will promote the 'Islamization of Knowledge' ( Islamization of knowledge ), d. H. a scientific thought based on the ethics of Islam , on which Faruqi also wrote a treatise (see also Abdul Hamid Abu Sulayman ). He was one of the senior fellows of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought (Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought), Jordan . He was murdered in 1986 at his home in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, along with his wife, Lois Lamya al-Faruqi, by a black Muslim who confessed and sentenced to death but died of natural causes in prison in 1996.
