Mohamed Talbi
Mohamed Talbi ( Arabic محمد الطالبي, DMG Muḥammad aṭ-Ṭālibī ; born September 16, 1921 in Tunis ; died May 1, 2017 ibid) was a Tunisian historian, professor and Islamic thinker. He was the author of many books on Islam .
Life
Talbi was the first dean of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities at the University of Tunis . From 2011 to 2012 he was President of the Tunisian Academy for Science, Literature and Art . Talbi is considered one of the most important Tunisian and Maghreb pioneers on the question of the compatibility of Islam and democracy.
He has received numerous honors and awards, including the 2009 Freedom to Publish Prize from the International Union of Publishers
