Mohammad Yusef Mashriqi (born July 7, 1987 in Flushing , New York City ) is an American - Afghan soccer player .
Life
Mohammad Yusef Mashriqi was born on July 7, 1987 to Tahir Mashriqi and his wife Safora in Flushing , New York City . His parents and his two older siblings fled to the United States via Pakistan in 1985 . He began his career at the renowned New York neighborhood club Blau Weiss Gottschee , where he was city champion four times. His accomplishments earned him a place with the Brooklyn Knights , where he played in the Super Y-League, and later one at Flushing High School, where he played with the high school team. He scored 28 goals for the school in 2003 and was named Player of the Year by both the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) and Newsday . In the summer of 2003, the midfielder also completed a trial session with the U-17s of the French club Paris Saint-Germain .
In 2005, he joined the college team at Long Island University Brooklyn and began studying physical education as a major at the same time . He was also active from 2006 to 2007 with Bakersfield Brigade and in 2009 with the Brooklyn Knights in the Premier Development League , the highest amateur league. He was also a member of the New York Red Bulls reserve squad . After two years at Jersey Express SC , the midfielder moved to the I-League 2nd Division for Bhawanipore FC . After two years he returned to the USA and played for United Cyclones SC and after a short break for Brishna FC .
Between 2011 and 2014, Mashriqi made 30 international appearances for Afghanistan and scored two goals. With her he won the South Asian Championship in 2013 and also reached the final two years earlier .
