Mohammed Valli Moosa (born February 8, 1957 in Johannesburg ) is a South African politician . He was a senior member of the United Democratic Front (UDF). and member of the African National Congress (ANC). He comes from a family of Indian migrants.

Life

Moosa attended Park Primary School and Lenasia State Indian High School, then attended the University of Durban-Westville , which later merged with another university to form the University of KwaZulu-Natal . At the age of 14 he had his first contact with the oppressive system of apartheid when he refused to sing the national anthem of the time, Die Stem van Suid-Afrika .

During Nelson Mandela's reign from 1994 to 1999 he was Minister for Constitutional Affairs, during his first term Thabo Mbeki was Minister for Environment and Tourism . In this function he attended the opening of the EXPO in Hanover in 2000. His successor in this position was Marthinus Christoffel Johannes van Schalkwyk . He was also President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources and Chairman of the Board of Eskom from 2004 to 2008 . In 2013 he became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Anglo American Platinum .
